Voices of Forgiveness

Beyond the ENRECA-Gulu University project but within the Forgiveness project

While involvement of the local community in Awach has been a significant feature of all the collaborative research domains and the DSS, it is worth mentioning that the sense of ownership of the projects by the communities was particularly clear under the forgiveness project. Some of the indications of this include the hosting of a “Forgiveness Hut” in the home compound of a local teacher, the contribution of one free of charge radio program by the local radio to discuss findings, and, the wish from the communities that new accounts be gathered for display.

Uganda National Museum has indicated a strong interest in collaboration with the project with intentions of integrating it into their programs for memorial sites of the war in Northern Uganda. In addition, Gulu University has entered into a partnership with the United Nations office of the Resident Coordinator to Uganda in hosting a Peace Conference in Gulu April 2012 revolving around some of the key themes coming out of the research. This conference is co-funded by ENRECA-Gulu University.
